Mother of the Groom Dresses

A date is set and the search for Mother of the Groom dresses is on!

You will want to look your best and therefore getting an early start is crucial to the process. It is advisable to liaise with the Mother of the Bride about what she is wearing early on to avoid any possible clashes in color or personality, because having both Mothers complimenting each other in style and color will ultimately make you look good.

Traditionally the Mother of the Bride has had carte blanche on what to wear and it has been expected that the Mother of the Groom will simply follow along, but times have changed and your position and dress are every bit as important so although you may find it less easy to find styles and articles actually labelled specifically Mother of the Groom dresses, do not let this deter you. There is plenty out there and you can look at Mother of the Bride catalogues too.

My advice is to start by selecting the color you want to wear. What colors look best on you and show off your complexion to the maximum effect? Once you have narrowed down your search to two or three color preferences it will simplify your search.

If you do not already know what colors look best on you, I advise consulting a color chart.

Also, you will want to find out what color scheme the Bride and Groom have chosen for their wedding so as not to clash, but not to worry as most colors go with each other and if the color you prefer appears to clash at first, trying a slightly different shade can sometimes turn it into a perfect match.

If you are friendly (hopefully you are) with the Bride, it might be a great opportunity for bonding if you go out shopping together for an afternoon, but this is in a perfect world and if there is any chance that a shopping trip might not go smoothly, rather go with a friend, you want to make this an enjoyable experience not a stressful one. Out of respect you may wish to pass your ideas by the Bride and Groom before making your purchase, just to avoid any problems.

Well, that's all for now. Enjoy the experience and for more inspiration and advice visit my Mother of the Groom Dresses blog.
